Today we faced a challenge, 12 LUUWHC players against 16 of Sheffield Hallam’s. the excitement of playing on the 2012 Olympic pitch wore off as the rain started to pour as we walked onto the pitch.
The first half of the game was dominated by Hallam, with the ball rarely entering their 25. Leeds defence stayed strong, with some solid tackles from Anna Lamsdale holding the score at 0-0.
The second half the 12 of us pushed our fitness to the limits, persistently racing Hallam to any loose ball on the pitch. Kirsten McCully in particular used her agility in combination with her skills to penetrate the oppositions D several times in the second half.
In the last minute if the game, Leeds university were facing a defensive short corner, the remainder of the hallam team joined their attack at the top of the D. With an excellent save by goalie, Jess Aston we finishes the game with a hard worked score of 0-0. Man of the match goes to a well deserved Jess Aston.
