In BUCS Prem on Wednesday, we travelled to Birmingham to prove ourselves against their 1st XI, who beat us by a huge amount last time we met, and sit very comfortably at the top of the league.
Leeds came out hard from the whistle; determined not to get pushed around by a team in which almost every player has an international cap. The work rate and concentration of Leeds matched that of Birmingham; we gave them a seriously hard time, and at half time, were just behind at 2-1 to Birmingham, with Leeds converting a short corner just before half time.
In the second half, Birmingham’s fitness and skill saw them manage to score another 2 goals, with Leeds not dropping in intensity but at times struggling to match the detail that Birmingham continually produced. Nonetheless, a fantastic performance from Leeds, managing to hold off some of the best student players in the country, and raising our game to absolutely match the opposition’s very high standard.
